Are you an English teacher? We’d love to have you involved with this important research project. There are a number of ways you can be involved:
Survey
English teachers from anywhere in Australia and of any experience level are invited to complete the survey for the project.
Please click here to complete the survey.
Interviews
Interviews with English teachers form a key part of the project and include the following:
Longitudinal study: English teachers in their first or second year of teaching in Victoria, New South Wales or Western Australia will be asked to attend one interview per year over three years which will be conducted by one of our researchers. This is a total of three interviews. Each interview’s duration will be approximately 1 hour. You will be asked questions relating to your views on what constitutes literary knowledge and the relationship this understanding has to professional practice, as mediated by social relationships in school contexts.
Snapshot data: English teachers in their first to fourth years of teaching in Victoria, New South Wales or Western Australia will be asked to attend one interview of approximately 1 hour. You will be asked questions relating to your views on what constitutes literary knowledge and the relationship this understanding has to professional practice, as mediated by social relationships in school contexts.
Experienced teachers with five or more years of teaching experience from anywhere in Australia will be asked to attend a focus group with other experienced teachers or participate in a one-on-one interview for approximately one hour with a member of the research team. Discussion will be focused on the concepts of literary knowledge and your experience of teaching English.
We will also be conducting interviews with Professors of English, teaching association representatives, and other stakeholders.
